Let's Talk Wellness At Work

Updated: Jan 20, 2023

Work shouldn't have to be a negative space. But it so often is. Our workplaces are a melting pot of everyone's struggles which can often lead to toxicity, bad moods and every day feeling like a struggle.

As well as working with individual clients, I love to work with businesses on improving the health of their team and working environment. It can be tricky to start but I have had a number of clients who have taken active steps to bring up issues that they see with their colleagues and bosses.

It can be such a tricky conversation to start. But if you are overworked, stressed out, working more hours than you should it and it's starting to affect your productivity, health, friends and family the first step is acknowledging how bad things have got and that they need to change.

We spend around 1/3 of our waking lives at work. 30% of your time. So, how we spend our work day matters.

Do you spend your day?

- Feeling Rushed

- Unable To Take A Break

- Phones Ringing Off The Hook

- Emails Coming In Quicker Than You Can Manage

- Feeling Like You Just Have To Keep Going?

Real Life Story

A wonderful client of mine recently told me a story of how things had changed at work for him. He told me that a colleague had come in F-ing and blinding and angry with the world. The guy was downing an energy drink and half way through a bag of chips (which was lunch).

After four weeks of working on his mindset, fitness and nutrition my client understood what was up he simply smiled and carried on with his day. He had recently switched up the way he ate, got himself off the sugar burning rollercoaster and felt a more balanced mood throughout the day as a result. He thought it was bloody magic... but it was probably less mysterious than that.

Do you:

- Snap at colleagues/friends/family/children

- Feel like you have a ping pong ball bouncing around in your brain

- Struggle to get to sleep at night and wake up in the morning

- Eat well, because the office baking/ biscuit tin is right there and an instant hit of gratification

- Struggle to move throughout the day

If so, it could be time to have a chat with the powers at be about making some changes.

The good news is that once you've acknowledged the problem, the solutions can be oh so simple. Elevated cortisol (stress hormone) levels can wreak havoc on our mood, energy levels and our waistline. Good nutrition and mindset can play a huge part in managing this. Reducing stress in the workplace can have huge and profound effects on the productivity of a team and workplace wellness.

What if you don't need a new job? What if every person in your team could feel happy and balanced the whole time? What a different world we all could live in.

Could you be the one to make your workplace a better space?
