You asked for it... and at the time of writing Christmas is exactly a month away. If you enjoy cocktails but want to make healthier choices, you’re in for a real surprise! Today, I’ll share three delightful low-carb margarita recipes.


Each one is easy to prepare and perfect for any occasion, so you can enjoy a tasty drink while keeping sugar at bay.


Note: There is around 2tsp of sugar in Cointreau... so if you want to be a REAL stickler you could swap this for a syrup made with a stevia based sweetener.


The Classic Low-Carb Margarita


Let’s kick things off with the classic low-carb margarita that everyone loves. This version is simple yet bursting with flavour. Here’s what you’ll need:


Ingredients:

- 2 oz tequila

- 2 oz Cointreau

- 2 oz fresh lime or lemon juice

- Salt for the rim


To begin, rim your glass with some lime juice and put some salt on a saucer. Dip your rim into the salt until it's lightly covered. I suggest using high-quality sea salt or a flavoured variant to enhance the taste. Avoid plain table salt, as it lacks character. and minerals


Next, fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, Cointreau, and freshly squeezed lime juice. Shake vigorously until the ingredients are well combined. Now, strain the mixture into your prepped glass and savour the refreshing flavour!


Feel free to adjust the lime and lemon juice ratios to fit your preference. I personally prefer a touch more lime for that zesty kick!


Spicy Margarita


If you love a little heat, the Tabasco margarita will be your new favorite! This version adds a spicy twist that’s perfect for those who enjoy their cocktails with an extra kick. Here’s how to create it:


Ingredients:

- 2 oz tequila

- 2 oz Cointreau

- 2 oz lime juice

- A few dashes of Tabasco sauce

- Salt for the rim


Use the same preparation method as the classic margarita, but this time, add a few dashes of Tabasco sauce to the shaker before shaking. The spice beautifully complements the tart lime juice. Once shaken, strain and serve in your salt-rimmed glass. You can also add chilli to the salt to really amp things up. AND garnish with a dried chilli if you're feeling really brave.

- 2 oz coconut tequila

- 2 oz Cointreau

- 2 oz lime juice

- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for the rim)

- Salt for the rim


Start by mixing equal parts of sugar-free cinnamon and salt for the rim. This combo will add a flavourful twist while keeping sugar levels low.


In your shaker, combine the coconut tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice. Shake it up, then pour into your beautifully rimmed glass. The coconut tequila imparts a sweet, tropical vibe that will transport you to a sun-soaked beach, even if you're relaxing at home.
